Mindful Yoga Therapies

What is Mindful Yoga Therapy for Mental Health?

Picture
Many of us experience mental or emotional health difficulties at some point in our lives. Difficult life circumstances, traumatic events, or environmental factors can be stressful to any child or adult's body, mind and spirit, and lead to dis-ease and dysregulation of the nervous system.

Mindful Yoga Therapy addresses the physiological, psychological, spiritual, and emotional aspects of Mental Health. Informed by the latest scientific thinking, the practices are individually tailored to your (or your child's) unique mental health needs to help support you with difficulties related to stress, anxiety, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We draw on a combination of practices including:
- Mindfulness Meditation Practices
- Breathing Practices (Pranayama)
- Physical Yoga Postures (Asana)
- Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep - deep relaxation)
- Neuroscience and psycho-education
- Psychotherapeutic Principles

Yoga and Mindfulness are fast becoming popular approaches to a vast array of physical, mental, learning and emotional health areas including issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), and chronic pain management.

Mindfulness and yoga therapy provide children and young people, as well as parents and carers, with specific tools and practices for:
  • regulating and being with their emotions
  • increasing concentration, attention, and focus
  • enhancing memory
  • inspiring confidence and wellbeing
  • improving sleep
  • promoting relaxation and calm
  • gaining deeper self-awareness and self-acceptance
  • improving physical and mental strength and flexibility
  • developing kindness and compassion towards self, others and the world around them.

Although still in it's infancy, controlled research studies are beginning to show the mental and physical health benefits of Yoga Therapy and Mindfulness.

"Yoga therapy is the dedicated and particular use of yoga practices for the treatment
of specific mental and physical ailments. The employment of therapeutic yoga practices must be,

in part, based on a scientific and medical understanding of the benefits
of these practices and of the conditions being treated”.
Heather Mason M.A.  The Minded Institute
