About Dr. Lana Jackson (BSc Hons, DClinPsyc, CPsychol)

Picture
Lana is a Senior Clinical Psychologist, Mindfulness Teacher, & qualified Yoga Therapist for Mental Health, specialising in child and adolescent mental health, Paediatric Clinical Psychology and Parental Mental Health.

Lana completed her clinical psychology doctorate training and graduated from Salomons Centre of Applied Psychology in 2008. She currently works with children, young people and their families within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Paediatric Clinical Psychology Services (NHS) with children facing chronic physical health difficulties such as multiple sclerosis (MS), chronic pain, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, and muscular dystrophy.

Alongside her career in psychology, Lana has been practicing yoga and meditation for a number of years. She experienced first hand the benefits of these practices for her own development, self-awareness, and self-acceptance. Lana naturally began to incorporate these tools and values into her therapeutic work with children and families.

Lana has done further training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), with her teachers Taravajra and Karunavira of Mindful Health in Sussex and The Mindful Child Training with Susan Kaiser Greenland. Lana is particularly interested in how mindfulness and body-based therapies can support young people and adults suffering from trauma. Lana has trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Resprocessing Therapy (EMDR) with Alexandra Richman and Specialist Child & Adolescent EMDR training with Joanne Morris-Smith. Lana has also completed further training in systemic family psychotherapy, solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), and cognitive behaviour therapy CBT).

In terms of yoga, Lana is a registered and qualified Yoga Therapist for Mental Health (350hr) with internationally renowned Heather Mason at The Minded Institute. This course is registered and accredited by the British Council of Yoga Therapy (BCYT) and Yoga Alliance Professionals. Lana has completed Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Training with Sarah Holmes de Castro,  the Teen Yoga UK training with Charlotta Martinus, and Youth Yoga Training with Live Love Yoga. Inspired by her own journey into pregnancy, birthing, and motherhood Lana has recently qualified as a prenatal, post-natal and Mum & Baby Yoga teacher with Sally Parkes Yoga.

Lana is currently involved in a number of projects including the co-development of a eight-week Mindful Awareness course for teenagers (14-19yrs) with stress, anxiety and low mood in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council and Sussex Partnership NHS Trust, and is now involved in co-facilitating, evaluating, & researching the effectiveness with young people with chronic physical health difficulties. She is also involved in research with Sussex University exploring how mindfulness might influence body-image and attitudes of school age children. Lana lectures at the The Minded Institute on Yoga as therapy for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and has co-authored a chapter on Yoga for ADHD in the book 'Yoga Therapy for Mental Health: for yoga teachers, therapists & mental health professionals'.

Lana has a special interest in EMDR, acceptance and mindfulness approaches, somatic and body-based therapies, and ecotherapy. She is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of working with the 'whole' person towards overall physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Lana is registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) as a Practicing Psychologist. She is chartered and registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a member of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP).
